All auctions / Jewellery & Gems / Edwardian Amethyst and Seed Pearl Pendant, c. 1905

Britain at the beginning of the 20th century: the Empire is at the height of its power. Social life in London was flourishing and luxury was becoming affordable for an increasingly broad social class. A touch of French Art Nouveau wafted over from the continent and revitalized the designs of the decorative arts with a new lightness. This pendant was also created in this atmosphere. The open-worked piece of jewellery made of filigree gold bars unfolds a play of delicate curves that dance over fine bars like lines of an ornamental drawing. Two violet amethysts lend the design its gentle radiance, while small natural pearls with a delicate shimmer form a harmonious counterbalance. We have added a modern gold chain to the piece of jewellery so that it can be worn immediately. The pendant is enchanting at first glance - a jewel that transports us back to the heyday of the British Empire, to the years around 1905, the brief, elegant reign of Edward VII.
