The elegant circular stand features a richly scalloped rim, a raised pedestal base and a graceful openwork carrying handle. Particularly delightful are the small hand-painted birds and colourful floral motifs decorating the stand, adding a romantic and playful touch to this refined ensemble. The six removable egg cups are crafted from fine white porcelain, with delicately fluted bodies, scalloped rims, pink blossoms and gold-trimmed edges. Period and origin Probably dating from the late 19th or early 20th century, circa 1880–1910, this ensemble reflects the Rococo Revival taste popular in European decorative porcelain. Such elegant egg cruets were traditionally used to serve boiled eggs at breakfast, particularly in well-appointed households where even everyday dining was presented with refinement and attention to detail. Today, this complete six-person set is equally appealing as a decorative centerpiece, a collector's item or an elegant addition to a traditional breakfast table.
