All auctions / Medals, Arms & Armour / Egypt - Document - Alexandria Freemasonry – Greek Letter

ALEXANDRIA, IN THREE LANGUAGES — LETTERS THAT STILL BEAR THE HAND OF THEIR WRITERS. Arabic, French and Greek meet on these five Masonic documents, opening a window onto the working life of Alexandria’s lodges. Letters, meetings, names and seals survive on the paper, inviting the collector to follow their traces. At the heart of the group is a Greek letter handwritten in green ink on the stationery of Kypseli Lodge No. 328, Alexandria. Its bilingual Greek–Arabic heading and distinctive beehive emblem give it an immediate visual identity. Writing continues on the reverse: a particularly engaging feature for collectors who value the personal character of manuscript correspondence. Around this manuscript are formal papers with circular Masonic stamps, handwritten additions and signatures. Their appeal unfolds through close examination — the shape of a seal, a name in the text, a note added by hand, or the relationship between a letter and its institutional heading. FIVE DOCUMENTS TO READ, EXPLORE AND COLLECT • Greek handwritten correspondence on Kypseli Lodge No. 328 headed paper, with its beehive emblem and writing visible on the reverse. • Arabic correspondence dated 16 December 1948, with handwritten additions and a stamp. • An Arabic Grand Secretariat letter dated 14 September 1951, setting out a meeting agenda. • A French “Proclamation de Constitution”, naming Masonic officers and discussing lodge organisation in the Nile Valley; photographed on both sides. • An Arabic “Bayan” dated 14 February 1952, bearing the printed name of Grand Master Abbas Halim and two circular seal impressions. The 1952 Bayan identifies Abbas Halim as Grand Master (al-Ustadh al-Aazam) beneath its text. His name is printed, with two circular seal impressions below. For the manuscript collector, the green-ink Greek letter is the centrepiece. For the Freemasonry enthusiast, the lodge emblems and seals reward closer inspection. For the researcher, the names, languages and dated correspondence offer starting points for further study. Together, these papers make an evocative collection with several layers to discover. IDENTIFICATION & CONTENTS Five loose period documents from Egypt, offered together. Institutional headings include the National Grand Lodge of Egypt, the Nile Valley Grand Lodge and Kypseli Lodge No. 328, Alexandria. Languages: Arabic, French and Greek. The dated Arabic documents span 1948–1952; dates of the remaining papers have not been fully established. This is a group of documents, not a complete institutional archive. Ink and stamps vary in strength, and some handwriting is faint. Please examine all 24 photographs, including close-ups and reverse views. Signature identities have not been independently authenticated; the printed name of Abbas Halim is not represented as his autograph.
