ew Kingdom, ca. 1550 - 1069 or later . A grey stone head of a pharaoh with a broad, idealised face beneath a tall, flat-topped crown with slightly flaring sides. The carefully modelled facial features comprise elongated almond-shaped eyes outlined by incised cosmetic lines, beneath gently arched brows extending towards the temples. The straight nose has pronounced nostrils, above a softly modelled mouth with full, closed lips and a rounded lower lip. Broad cheeks taper towards a rounded chin, with a subtle transition between the cheekbones and jawline. Large, prominently carved ears project from beneath the crown, with deeply recessed inner details and well-modelled outer rims. At the rear, the head is roughly finished, with a projecting section of stone and visible chisel marks. The facial features have been subject to later recarving, particularly around the eyes, nose and mouth.
