Rare original Elastolin / Lineol, among others - German music corps - WWII among others (see pictures) 16 x soldiers among others / rare figures Elastolin: Mass figures were already produced around 1880 in Austria by the Wien-based company Emil Pfeiffer, which became world-famous for the “loving and colorful painting” of its figures. Around 1900 production began in Germany. Similar to tin figurines, it covered an enormous thematic range, but mainly consisted of toy warfare. Accessories such as vehicles were usually made of tin sheet; sometimes there were mixed forms, for example tin carriages with crew and horses made of mass. Since other manufacturers often adhered to Hausser’s size standards, the products were frequently compatible with each other. As many manufacturers did not specialize only in toy warfare but also depicted organizations and leadership of the NS regime in their figures, after World War II a resumption of production in all occupation zones of Germany was difficult. Lineol up to 1945 The Lineol Aktiengesellschaft was founded in 1906 by Oskar Wilhelm Wiederholz in Brandenburg an der Havel. Since 1903 he developed the composition material needed, which, unlike the composition of competitor Elastolin, also contained linseed oil and pine resin. Co-responsible for Lineol’s success was the Berlin artist Albert Caasmann, who since 1909 designed the wax templates for the figures. He became chief modeller under Wiederholz in 1919 and was head of figure production until 1952. In the 1930s LINEOL AG employed 300 to 400 workers. A high level of detail in the figures was responsible for the rapid success of the figures. The animals from the Berlin Zoo served as models for the wild animals. Two famous examples from the animal figure production are the hippopotamus Knautschke and the gorilla “Bobby,” which Albert Caasmann immortalized in miniature. In addition to mass figures, Lineol produced high-quality tin toys. The figures were available in different scales/sizes (from 17 cm to 4 cm), with the size of 7.5 cm becoming established over the years. The Lineol mass figures are distinguished from the Hausser company (brand Elastolin) figures by a rectangular base. Very nice collection of detailed figures. A must for every collector.
