Elegant Vintage Ring with Diamonds in Yellow and White Gold, circa 1950

In the years following World War II, European jewellery design often drew inspiration from the time-tested styles of earlier decades. After a long period of deprivation, the elegant diamond jewellery of the Belle Époque served as a particular source of inspiration, as its balanced compositions were regarded as classically beautiful and were reinterpreted around 1950 in contemporary, often somewhat more bold designs. This ring, too, follows that tradition. The openwork detailing on its compact, symmetrically designed ring face is reminiscent of the delicately structured designs of the early 20th century. At the same time, the solid ring band and the overall sturdier craftsmanship reveal that it was created at a later date. At the center are three larger diamonds in a modern round brilliant cut, whose even sparkle is vividly complemented by smaller rose cut diamonds. It is precisely the interplay of the different cuts that gives the ring its special character. This ring, acquired here in Berlin, was likely crafted around 1950 and is in excellent condition. It combines the festive elegance of the Belle Époque with the self-assured design language of the postwar era—a classic diamond ring with timeless appeal that found its way to us here in Berlin.
