Elk Horn, Wisconsin. Rockwell & Co's Bank. 1860 $2. PMG Choice Uncirculated

Elk Horn, Wisconsin. Rockwell & Co's Bank. 1860 $2. PMG Choice Uncirculated 63. Remainder. No. None. Plate A. Described in 2010 as "a stunning piece from an exceptional series." This Remainder attributable to Rockwell & Co's Bank in Elk Horn is a particularly striking composition in visual terms. Here bidders are presented with distinct designs evocative of a coupon note as the note itself is visually two distinct halves. The leftmost half provides a distinct primer regarding the application of "Lyman's Protection" contrary to the rightmost portion which represents the banknote portion while the left half echoes the scheme for this specific denomination. No doubt that this is arguably one of the most visually distinctive notes included among the Caine holdings and one that could very well make our estimate seem conservative in retrospect. A total of (8) rounded POCs may be observed at right in the signature panels. PMG comments "Cancelled; Previously Mounted." Estimate: $800 - $1,200. Provenance: From the Caine Collection.
