Emile-Marie Beaume (1888-1967) - Solitude d'automne

Emile-Marie Beaume (1888-1967) - Solitude d'automne

Hello, I offer a perfectly preserved oil on canvas signed Emile-Marie BEAUME (1888-1967), a referenced and market-listed painter. The work depicts a forest road as a central perspective where the accompanying vegetation serves to guide the eye into the forest. Between light and vast natural space, the vanishing point of this road is highlighted by a corridor of foliage and trees; it is not merely a path toward an open horizon. This approach is typical of the work of the Impressionists. The sky appears through light whitish and bluish breaks through the treetop canopy, creating a clearing that is masked. The road and ruts are not uniform. Emile-Marie BEAUME materializes the muddy, damp texture by applying long vertical and oblique strokes of broken tones (beige, terre verte and gray-brown) that simulate ravines carved by water or by the passage of cart wheels. The mossy carpet represented by tufts of green in the foreground is treated with fragmented, juxtaposed touches of vivid greens and browns to convey the moisture of the forest floor. On the left, a trace of human life is visible by the heap of wood represented by dark horizontal strokes. On the right, dead branches on the ground form a tangle of white and gray broken lines catching light at ground level. The artist plays on the thermal and complementary contrasts of autumn: the bright green of the ground grass responds dynamically to the reddish, orange, and ochre colors of the canopy for warmer hues. The vertical tree trunks painted in bluish gray and brown act as dark graphic ruptures in the midst of this vibrant color mass. The canopy and surrounding bushes display a rich palette of autumn colors. The leaves oscillate between earthy brown, yellow ochre, russet, and touches of persistent green. The technique of small textured touches gives an impression of movement, particularly evoking the subtle tremor of dry leaves. The brushwork is vigorous, very detailed, and textured for a representation rich in artistic sensibility. The artist uses fractured and layered strokes to capture the vibrations of light and the thickness of the forest landscape. The overall atmosphere conveys a sense of calm, solitude, and nostalgia characteristic of Impressionist landscapes. Frame dimensions: 64 cm x 53 cm Artwork dimensions: 54 cm x 46 cm An AI estimate is offered for information purposes (photo no. 11) Émile Marie BEAUME is a French painter and engraver born in Paris in 1888 and died in Antony in 1967. Trained at the École des Beaux-Arts of Paris, he distinguished himself with his portraits, landscapes, and scenes of daily life. His figurative work sits within the tradition of 20th-century French painting. A discreet but appreciated artist by his contemporaries, Émile Marie BEAUME leaves behind a substantial artistic legacy. His paintings, held in public and private collections, testify to his attachment to classical aesthetic values and his desire to represent with sensitivity the landscapes and people of his time. Even today, his work constitutes a valuable testimony of 20th-century French painting. This antique canvas is in perfect condition with no restoration. Visible stretcher-backs on all four sides have been added to tension the canvas onto an antique frame. The canvas has recently been cleaned by a professional, followed by the application of a satin UV-protective varnish by Winsor & Newton after fixing the Paraloid B-72. A restored old molded and gilded frame is in perfect, sturdy condition. This oil on canvas by Émile Marie BEAUME is a work of great sensitivity that demonstrates a flawless technical mastery. Thanks to its rigorous perspective construction and a palette skillfully contrasting the freshness of the moss with the warmth of ochred foliage, the painter manages to go beyond a simple landscape representation to offer a true sensory immersion. This painting stands as a collectible piece that is decorative, luminous, and representative of the talent of a landscape painter of the first half of the 20th century.
