An elegant English armchair dating from the 19th century, featuring black lacquered wood with carved decoration. The chair is upholstered in finely worked needlepoint tapestry in the Chinese taste (Chinoiserie), depicting figures in garden landscapes with pavilions, exotic birds, flowering plants, and decorative motifs on a dark ground. The scrolling arms and generously proportioned seat add to its comfort and decorative appeal. A fine example of Victorian fascination with Eastern-inspired design.
