Enrico Sacchetti (1877-1967) - Profilo di donna con cappello

Enrico Sacchetti (Rome 1877 - Settignano 1967) Portrait of a Woman with a Hat Tempera on paper Signed at the bottom right On the back, the dedication and the author's signature Dimensions with frame: 42x33 cm with frame Painting: 37.5x28.5 cm Enrico Sacchetti was born in Rome to a Tuscan family, son of Giuseppe, a civil servant and painter by passion, friend of Telemaco Signorini, and of Isolina Cecchini. He was introduced into Florence's artistic milieu from a young age. After completing technical studies, pursued to satisfy his father's expectations, he returned to Florence, where he became close friends with Libero Andreotti. In 1901 he collaborated with Vamba at il Bruscolo, then pursued a career as a caricaturist with Umberto Notari, which led him to success. Enrico Sacchetti is indeed regarded as one of the most famous Italian caricaturists of the twentieth century. He was a friend of Filippo Tommaso Marinetti, whose poetry magazine he illustrated, and became one of the most famous advertising illustrators, thanks to the successful Bitter Campari series and the invigorating syrup Proton. In 1908 he moved to Argentina, where in Buenos Aires he collaborated for El Diario, the capital's daily, but disappointed by the South American experience he returned to Europe and, for a short period, stayed in Paris. From 1912 he began to collaborate diligently with La Lettura, the illustrated monthly of Corriere della Sera, for which he drew many color covers and black-and-white internal illustrations that accompanied novellas and novels. His style visually defined the magazine for about 25 years (just as Achille Beltrame and Walter Molino defined La Domenica del Corriere). During World War I, enlisted in the Royal Army, he contributed to La Tradotta, the famous magazine of the III Army. After the Cassibile Armistice he joined the Italian Social Republic and, alongside painting, he also occasionally contributed to the Corriere as an elzevirist.
