Also called "Enstatite chondrites E." Excepting those found in Antarctica and the NWA, only twenty-four have been found. They owe their name to the large amount of enstatite present. The iron it contains is not found forming oxides, but sulfides or as metal. This would indicate that its formation occurred in an oxygen-poor region, probably inside Mercury’s orbit. The Al Haggounia 001 meteorite has finally been classified, after much controversy, as an EL 4-7 enstatite melted chondrite. The piece we are auctioning in this lot is a large, complete piece for a good collection. Due to its age, Al Haggounia 001 is considered by many as a "fossil meteorite". On the other hand, enstatite chondrites are among the oldest materials in the Solar System, with formation ages estimated at more than 4.5 billion years.
