Epic Indian scene (Mahabharata/Ramayana) - Indonesia

Fascinating and large narrative painting on fabric, created in the traditional Balinese Kamasan style (Indonesia). This type of pictorial work (traditionally known as Langse or Ider-Ider) depicts epic and mythological scenes drawn from Hindu sacred texts, such as the Mahabharata or the Ramayana. The work is rich in details and finely hand-painted with natural pigments on cotton canvas. In the lower left is depicted a four-armed deity (probably Shiva or Vishnu) accompanied by his vahana (animal/ride). Battle Scene and Heroes: In the central and upper section are represented warriors, heroes and Balinese elves/demons (Wayang characters) armed with bows, arrows, kris and spears, depicted in the midst of a battle or royal ceremony. Features decorative geometric and floral borders typical of Balinese iconography. Origin: Bali, Indonesia. Style: Kamasan (Wayang Style). Hand-painted on fabric / cotton canvas. Dimensions: 200 cm × 80 cm (2 meters x 80 cm). Good overall condition in relation to age and material. Shows patina of time, slight creases and natural color variations of the fabric that attest to its authenticity and vintage charm. Please view the photographs carefully for a precise idea of the condition.
