Eric Rohman (1891-1949) (after) - "Mysteriet Dracula, 1931 " - (60x79,5cm)

- Art print giclée on smooth matte paper (approx. 300gsm, refers to paper thickness/density). - Embossing stamp. - Condition: excellent. Never framed, never exposed. - Ready to frame. The pic in which the item appears framed is a simulated recreation for illustrative purposes only, the frame and other decorative elements shown in it are not included in the lot you are bidding on. - Size: 60 x 79,5 cm. - This striking art print reproduces the poster for Mysteriet Dracula (1931), starring Bela Lugosi in the role that permanently defined the screen image of Count Dracula. The design is especially effective for the way it reduces the story to a handful of bold graphic elements: Lugosi’s pale green face emerging from deep black, the dramatically enlarged red title, and the reclining female figure below. Rather than illustrating a literal scene from the film, the poster creates menace through scale, colour and psychological tension, using a strongly modern, almost Expressionist vocabulary that reflects the influence of European graphic design between the wars. The hard silhouettes, limited palette and theatrical typography transform Lugosi into an ominous floating presence, while the vulnerable figure beneath reinforces the atmosphere of seduction, danger and supernatural threat that made Universal’s Dracula one of the foundational works of classic horror cinema. As a decorative piece, the print has exceptional presence thanks to its combination of black, vivid red, pale green and soft flesh tones. It works particularly well against charcoal, cream, muted green, burgundy or warm grey walls, and can be framed in black for a sharper cinematic effect or in dark wood for a more vintage appearance. Its graphic construction allows it to fit naturally into industrial, eclectic, Art Deco, retro-cinema or contemporary interiors, while the strong typography gives it the character of a genuine period design object rather than simply a film still. It would be especially effective in a study, library, cinema room, bar, creative workspace or collector’s interior, and makes an original gift for admirers of Bela Lugosi, Universal Monsters, gothic cinema, vintage posters and early twentieth-century graphic design. The enduring fascination of Dracula lies in the way cinema, theatrical performance, horror iconography and modern visual culture converge in a single image. Lugosi’s interpretation influenced virtually every later representation of the aristocratic vampire, while posters such as this helped establish the visual language through which horror was marketed internationally. Its appeal therefore extends beyond classic-film collectors to enthusiasts of Expressionism, Art Deco, vintage advertising and twentieth-century pop imagery, with affinities that can also attract collectors interested in Warhol, Basquiat, Haring, Hockney, Banksy, Shepard Fairey, Kaws, Cartier, Rolex, Patek Philippe, Chanel, Dior, Hermès, Gucci, Lego, Star Wars and Pokémon. More than a reproduction of a film poster, it is a vivid survival of the moment when modern cinema created one of its most enduring cultural myths.
