Escuela Barroco Italiana (XVII) - Santa Madonna

Escuela Barroco Italiana (XVII) - Santa Madonna

Title: Santa Madonna School: Italian Baroque (17th century) Style: Devotional Baroque Technique: Oil on copper Circle and artistic influence: Work stylistically linked to the tradition of Italian devotional painting of the 17th century. The composition responds to widely disseminated Marian models during the Baroque, with echoes of the Bologna school and of Italian religious painting with an intimate character. The delicate treatment of the faces, the chiaroscuro and the affectionate arrangement between the Virgin and the Child allow it to be related to the artistic milieu of painters such as Carlo Maratta and his followers, without implying a direct attribution. Religious scene of an intimate nature depicting the Virgin Mary accompanying the sleeping Child Jesus. The Madonna appears inclined toward the little one, with a serene and maternal expression, as she delicately brings a hand toward his head. The Child occupies the foreground of the composition, reclining on a reddish cushion and partially covered by fabrics. The child’s nudity contrasts with the intense blue of the Virgin’s mantle and with the warm tones of the flesh. The dark background and the concentrated light on the figures generate a marked chiaroscuro, reinforcing the sense of seclusion characteristic of Baroque devotional painting. The copper support favors a smooth pictorial surface and an especially precise definition of small details. The composition aims to convey maternal tenderness, stillness and spirituality. It is presented with a prominent antique carved and gilded wooden frame, richly ornamented with volutes, vegetal motifs, geometric elements and a central crown. Its flowing line design and abundant decoration are in keeping with the Baroque aesthetics of the work. Signs of age and wear are visible on the gilding and on the carving, coherent with its decorative character. Condition: The work shows restorations, a circumstance in keeping with its age. The frame shows wear, small losses and signs of the passage of time. Notes: Exceptionally, shipping costs may be affected by a surcharge due to causes such as being outside a continental territory, exceeding measurements or weight of the item. PremiArt will not cover this surcharge. The courier that has to pass through the Swiss border can experience much longer delays than normal, so, if possible to speed up processing, we will provide the customs number that is holding the shipment so that the customer can unlock it and thus reach its destination. Experience has taught us that this is the most effective solution for both parties. The work may incur damage during transport even with proper packaging. In that case, we will need photographs of the damage to proceed with compensation. Customer satisfaction is always our priority. Due to the high volume of shipments, orders may be delayed by more than three days, for which we apologize and thank you for your patience. If you have any questions about your order, please contact us via internal messaging. Framed measurements: 38.3 × 32.7 cm Unframed measurements: 22 × 16.5 cm
