Magnificent sculpture of a cherubic angel belonging to the Spanish school and made during the Baroque, toward the first third of the eighteenth century. The work stands out for the quality of its carving, evident in the delicate modeling of the face, naturalistic anatomy, and the deep work on the hair, traits characteristic of Spanish Baroque imagery. The composition, full of movement and expressiveness, fully responds to the artistic language of the Baroque, whose aim was to move the viewer and reinforce the spiritual character of the images. Its dynamic stance and the arrangement of the arms indicate that it probably formed part of an altarpiece or a sculptural ensemble of a religious nature. It preserves traditional joints, a patina of great authenticity, and aging coherent with its chronology, including natural cracks in the wood and signs of old wood-borers, elements common in sculptures of this period. A piece of notable historical and artistic interest, representative of the quality achieved by Spanish Baroque devotional imagery from the early eighteenth century.
