Title: The Sadness ç School: European Expressionist (20th century) Style: Figurative Expressionism Technique: Oil on canvas Circle and artistic influence: Work linked to the tradition of European Expressionism of the 20th century, with a pictorial conception centered on externalizing the psychological state of the character over naturalistic representation. The simplification of features, expressive distortion and the use of a palette with strong chromatic contrasts recall the expressionist currents developed in Europe during the 20th century. There are also echoes of Fauvism in the autonomous and emotional use of color, especially in the opposition between the intense oranges of the figure and the dark greens of the surroundings. Figurative composition starring a character seated on a sofa, represented in a posture of deep dejection and introspection. The head inclined, the downcast gaze and the bent posture build an image of isolation and melancholy, fully justifying the title The Sadness. The artist omits precise anatomical description to concentrate on the emotional charge of the scene. The face is modeled with blueish, greenish and dark tones, with deliberately simplified features that emphasize the psychological character of the portrait. The figure wears a garment in an intense orange color, turned into the main chromatic focal point of the composition. The background, dominated by deep greens, blacks and earthy tones, is barely defined, creating a closed and indeterminate space that reinforces the feeling of solitude. The brushwork is broad, gestural and visible, with areas where the pigment is applied more lightly and others with greater intensity. The strong contrast between the warm tones of the body and the ambient darkness provides visual tension and contributes decisively to the emotional content of the painting. The work thus responds to an essentially expressionist conception, in which color, gesture and formal deformation function as vehicles to represent a mood rather than an objective reality. Frame: The work is presented without a visible frame. Observations: From the supplied images small irregularities and surface signs compatible with age and handling of the work may be observed. The condition should be assessed based on the provided photographs. Measurements: 130 x 97.5 cm. The work may incur damage during transport even with proper packaging. In such a case, we will require photographs of the damages to proceed with compensation. Customer satisfaction is always our priority. Exceptionally, shipping costs may be affected by an excess charge for reasons such as being outside a continental territory, excessive dimensions or weight of the item. PremiArt will not cover this surcharge. The courier that must cross the Swiss border can experience much longer delays than normal, so, if possible, to speed up processing, we will provide the customs number that is holding the shipment so the customer can clear it and thus reach its destination. Experience has taught us that this is the most effective solution for both parties. Due to the high volume of shipments, orders may be delayed by more than three days for which we apologize and thank you for your patience. If you have any questions about your order, please contact us via internal messaging.
