Title: Landscape on the River School: European Impressionist (19th century) Style: Landscape Impressionism Technique: Oil on canvas Status: Re-stretched. Restorations present. ㅤ Circle and artistic influence: Work linked to the realm of European landscape painters of the late 19th century, with influences from Italian and French landscape tradition and certain echoes of Romantic painting. The depiction of riverbank architecture, the bridge and the towers, together with the use of the watercourse as a depth axis, responds to landscape models developed during the 19th century. The execution combines a still traditional landscape composition with a freer brushstroke typical of Impressionist tendencies. River landscape articulated around a river that runs longitudinally through the composition and guides the gaze toward the background. On the left bank, a set of vernacular-style buildings clusters together, with light façades, red roofs and different architectural volumes. Two pointed-roof towers visually delimit the scene, while a distant bridge connects the two shores. ㅤ The vegetation in the foreground, treated with dark, loose brushstrokes, creates depth and contrasts with the more subdued luminosity of the sky and the architectures. The palette is dominated by ochres, earth tones, muted greens and grays, giving the scene a serene and slightly melancholic atmosphere. ㅤ The work is re-stretched, an intervention aimed at reinforcing the original textile support. By its chronology, it shows restorations. It is presented with a wide-profile gold wooden frame, molded in a stepped pattern, with an aged-looking finish. It shows signs of age and wear, including losses and localized alterations to the gilding, in accordance with its chronology and use. ㅤ Observations: The conservation status should be assessed considering the piece’s age. The work is re-stretched and presents restorations. The frame is part of the lot presentation and may show signs of wear, small losses and defects typical of its age. ㅤ Exceptionally, shipping costs may be affected by a surcharge due to causes such as being outside a continental territory, oversized dimensions, or weight of the item.
