Title: Costa Brava ㅤ School: European Impressionist (20th century) ㅤ Style: Mediterranean Impressionism ㅤ Technique: Oil on panel ㅤ Condition: Overall good state of conservation, with possible signs of aging and wear commensurate with its era. ㅤ Circle and artistic influence: The work is part of the Mediterranean landscape tradition linked to Spanish Impressionism of the 20th century, especially among painters devoted to representing the Catalan coastline and the Costa Brava. The thick, rapid, visible brushstrokes, together with the luminosity of the palette, reveal the influence of plein air painting and Mediterranean post-impressionist landscape painting. The treatment of rocks, pines and sea reflections recalls the pictorial solutions used by various Catalan landscape painters from the mid-20th century, interested in directly capturing the effects of light on the coastal scenery. ㅤ The composition depicts a bright view of the Costa Brava, with a small cove outlined by rocky formations and Mediterranean vegetation. In the foreground appear several pines with sinuous trunks that visually guide toward the coast, while the rocks, executed with thick brushstrokes in ochre, yellow and cream tones, contrast with the blues of the Mediterranean. In the distance, the coastline extends beneath a clear sky slightly veiled by small clouds. ㅤ The execution is characterized by a loose and thick brushwork, especially evident in the rocks, trees and the white crests of the waves. The combination of blues, greens, yellows and earth tones gives the scene a marked Mediterranean luminosity, conveying the sense of a calm, sunlit day by the sea. ㅤ The work is presented with a frame of notable decorative presence, composed of several stepped moldings and predominantly gold finish. The outer molding has a textured and slightly irregular surface, while the inner moldings, of classical lines, guide the eye toward the painting through a narrow light interstice. The overall composition reinforces the traditional and luminous character of the landscape. ㅤ Observations: The work may incur damage during transport even with proper packaging. In that case, we will require photographs of the damage to proceed with compensation.
