Title: River in Autumn School: European Impressionist School, 20th century Style: Landscape Impressionism Technique: Oil on panel Circle and artistic influence: Work linked to European landscape impressionism and to naturalist currents derived from plein air painting of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The choice of a riverine setting, the prominence of atmosphere and the free brushwork allow relating it to the circle of followers of the French and Central European landscape tradition, with echoes of the Barbizon School and its later assimilation by the Impressionist painters. Forest landscape with a marked autumnal atmosphere in which a tranquil river crosses the composition from the foreground and gradually enters a dense woodland. The riverbed acts as the main axis of depth, guiding the gaze into the interior of the forest. The numerous vertical trunks create a pronounced compositional rhythm and contrast with the sinuous forms of the river. The vegetation is treated with a restrained palette of muted greens, ochres, earth tones, grays and bluish hues, reinforcing the sense of humidity and the light diffusion typical of the autumn months. In the water there are clear reflections that break the dark predominant tones and bring luminosity to the center of the scene. The brushwork is free and synthetic, especially visible in the foliage, the terrain and the water reflections, granting greater importance to atmospheric perception than to meticulous description of the elements. The result is an intimate and silent composition, focused on the representation of nature and its luminous variations. The work is presented with a wide carved and stepped wooden frame, finished in an aged golden tone. It features linear decoration and different levels of molding that provide depth to the overall piece. Signs of wear, occasional finish losses, rubbing and signs of aging are visible, especially on the edges and corners. Observations The work is framed. The frame shows signs of age and wear.
