Escuela Italiana (XVII-XVIII) - XL - Vanitas con pavo real

Escuela Italiana (XVII-XVIII) - XL - Vanitas con pavo real

School: Italian (17th–18th centuries) Style: Baroque Technique: Oil on canvas Condition / support: Re-stretched. Restorations have been carried out. Circle and artistic influence: Work linked to the sphere of the great Italian still-life painters of the late Baroque, especially to the decorative tradition developed between the 17th and 18th centuries around compositions of flowers, fruit, birds, and exotic animals. Due to its scenographic character, ornamental richness, and the combination of natural elements, it shows affinities with the circle and the tradition of painters such as Abraham Brueghel (1631-1697), a Flemish artist active for much of his career in Italy, whose influence was notable in the development of the Italian Baroque still life. There are also echoes of Roman and Neapolitan decorative painting specialized in sottobosco, animals, and monumental still lifes. Monumental Baroque still life dominated by the figure of a peacock, depicted in profile and occupying the central axis of the composition. Its dark plumage and long tail create a strong silhouette that contrasts with the light blue sky of the background. The bird is surrounded by an exuberant combination of vegetal elements and animals. In the foreground, there is a abundant selection of flowers of different species and tones, accompanied by fruit and vegetation. Among them one can discern white, reddish, orange, and bluish flowers, treated with decorative intention and special attention to their different textures. In the upper left area there are a vine and clusters of grapes, while to the right various fruits are arranged, among them a split-open pomegranate, reinforcing the abundance characteristic of this genre of painting. In a lower plane, partially obscured among the vegetation, is also the head of a small animal. In the background an open landscape unfolds with vegetation, sky, and a vertical water feature, a device that adds depth and dynamism to the composition. The accumulation of flowers, fruits, animals, and vegetation builds a scene of great visual richness, characteristic of the Baroque taste for the exuberance of nature. The work stands out for its considerable size, the theatrical arrangement of the elements, and the strong contrast between the illuminated areas and the darker background. The presence of the peacock, traditionally associated in European art with beauty, magnificence, and immortality, contributes to the sumptuous character of the composition. The painting is presented with a gilded wooden frame, wide and stepped in profile, composed of several successive moldings. Its gilded finish, slightly aged and showing signs of the passage of time, harmonizes with the historical and ornamental character of the painting. Conservation status Old work that shows restorations and has been re-stretched, a common intervention intended to reinforce the original support of the canvas. Because of its age, it may present craquelure, wear, small losses, retouching and other signs compatible with the passage of time. It is recommended to study the photographs carefully as part of the conservation description. Remarks The work may incur damage during transport even if properly packaged. In such a case, we will require photographs of the damages to process compensation. Customer satisfaction is always our priority. Exceptionally, shipping costs may be affected by an surcharge for reasons such as being outside a continental territory, exceeding dimensions or weight of the item. PremiArt will not be responsible for this surcharge. The customs clearance that must pass through the Swiss border can be delayed much more than normal, so, if possible, to speed up the process, we will provide the customs number that is holding the shipment so that the customer can unlock it and have it reach its destination. Experience has taught us that this is the most effective solution for both parties. Due to the high volume of shipments, it is possible that the order is delayed by more than three days, for which we apologize and thank you for your patience. Any questions about your order please contact us via internal messaging. Dimensions of the work: 140 × 105 cm Dimensions with frame: 154 × 119 cm
