A0000004360 VINTAGE ELEGANCE, SOBERNESS / TORTOISE GOLD EDITION WITH STUB NIB: An exceptional high-end Esterbrook Estie fountain pen, in its highly coveted catalog finish "Tortoise Gold", part of the brand's modern contemporary collection under factory official reference E136-F. Designed as the perfect bridge between the golden age of classic celluloid and modern materials, this line is a cult object. This exemplar stands out for its robust chassis 15.0 cm long when closed, made from high-density turned acrylic resin with an exquisite marbled pattern that imitates the traditional tortoise shell in tones of dark brown, amber, caramel and translucent cream. The cap features a friction-fit closure system assisted by an internal spring that hermetically seals the nib to prevent ink evaporation, mounted with a highly flexible yellow-gold plated clip and bearing the firm name "Esterbrook" engraved on the lower lip. The outstanding heritage jewel of this lot is its original steel nib with yellow gold plating, engraved with the firm’s historic clover and the date "Est. 1858". The feeding system operates with international standard cartridges or a piston converter. It is presented in excellent preserved condition, complete with its original official set of red fabric rigid case and outer protective box. Condition: Collection Quality / Excellent Premium Condition The writing instrument is presented in superb cosmetic and mechanical condition, ready for immediate use or display: Acrylic Tortoise Resin Chassis: The exterior surface features a magnificent, mirror-like finish that is uniform throughout the contour. Completely free of signs of use, stress cracks at the cap lip, or scratches from drops. The visual pattern offers stunning three-dimensionality and shine under direct desk lighting. Gold Components and Engravings: In magnificent condition. The gold plating on the clip and center band remains bright, whole, and immaculate. Esterbrook’s golden script on the cap remains perfect at 100%. Impeccable Gold-Plated Steel Nib. The gold tines are perfectly straight and aligned with its modern flat feed, preserving its factory-made flat iridium point to provide a spectacular vertical and horizontal stroke variation with legendary smoothness. Mechanics and Packaging: Fully operational. The interior is clean and comes with its official factory presentation with its original boxes, greatly enhancing the lot for auction. Curious Fact for Collectors For international appraisers and stylophiles on Catawiki, the Esterbrook Estie Tortoise with Stub nib is a reference lot of mandatory appraisal and high valuation. While most of these pens are sold with standard points (F or M), the Stub cut tip is flat-cut at the tip so that vertical strokes are thick and horizontal strokes are fine, automatically mimicking the writing of ancient manuscripts. It features the innovative internal grip system called Cushion Cap Closure, which blocks air entry and guarantees instantaneous writing. Owning a premium state Tortoise unit with its original boxes represents a superb investment opportunity with highly stable value. I wish you the best of luck with your bids and a wonderful auction to all Catawiki participants!
