Ewer - Pewter - Walzenkrug

A substantial and heavily cast tin hinged-lid beer can / spout jug of a classic cylindrical model (Walzenkrug), dating from the period around 1800 (late 18th or early 19th century). The can features a neat, tall cylindrical body that tapers at the bottom into a broad, profiled stand ring. The flat lid is provided with concentric turned profiles and is crowned by a fine, turned central knop. Fitted with a sturdy cast banded spout, an integral thumb rest, and a solid multi-part hinge that still closes perfectly. Both on the lid and at the underside of the base there are authentic impressed/punched owner's initials, indicating a rich history of use. The base shows on the outside lovely concentric turning marks.
