Remarkable natural Sri Lankan sapphire displaying a lemon-yellow color that is particulièrement bright, beautiful transparency and a fascinating raw crystalline aspect Magnificent raw natural sapphire from Sri Lanka (Ceylon) This stone immediately stands out for its extremely bright yellow color, ranging from pale lemon-yellow to solar yellow. Under lighting, the crystal seems to truly illuminate from within, with almost colorless zones alternating with much more intense yellow concentrations. Its excellent light transmission, combined with its complex natural relief, produces a multitude of reflections and gives the specimen a remarkable presence despite its small size. A particularly delicate and luminous yellow color Color is one of the main attractions of this stone. Unlike yellow sapphires with strongly orange or golden hues, this specimen develops a light, fresh lemon yellow, sometimes slightly yellow-green depending on orientation and lighting. This relatively light tone allows a substantial amount of light to penetrate the crystal. The result is a very high luminosity and a color that seems to evolve as the stone is turned. Under intense light, some parts take on an almost electric yellow appearance while the more transparent areas become much lighter. Beautiful natural transparency The crystal shows remarkable transparency for a stone kept entirely in its raw state. Light passes through a large part of the material, allowing observation of the internal structures and reliefs beneath the surface. Some areas appear especially clear while others feature more structures and natural inclusions. This alternation creates a very interesting visual depth. The visible internal characteristics are an integral part of the identity of this rough gem and allow direct observation of the complexity of a natural crystal before any cutting. A spectacular internal architecture Macrophotography reveals a true miniature mineral landscape. Inside the crystal appear numerous structures, small natural fractures and variations in transparency. Some internal surfaces strongly reflect light and produce silvery flashes, while others remain almost perfectly transparent. A particularly dark area is also visible in part of the crystal. It creates a striking contrast with the very light yellow material surrounding it and gives the specimen an instantly recognizable visual identity. The whole changes considerably with the viewing angle. Intense vitreous luster The natural surface presents a very beautiful vitreous luster. The many irregularities of the rough crystal create numerous small surfaces capable of reflecting light. Under direct lighting, they generate a multitude of bright white, silver and yellow-gold points. The more regular parts act almost like tiny windows allowing observation of the interior of the crystal, while the rougher areas diffuse more light. This continuous interaction between transparency, reflection and color constitutes a large part of the stone’s aesthetic interest. A gemstone kept in its natural form This sapphire is presented rough and unfaceteted, allowing direct appreciation of its natural appearance. Its irregular, slightly rounded morphology preserves the various textures and reliefs characteristic of the stone. No faceting masks its internal architecture: the collector can observe the gem material directly in its rough state. With its 0.48 carat, the specimen also has a very interesting volume for its dimensions of about 4.5 mm. Stone characteristics Mineral: Corundum – natural sapphire Origin: Sri Lanka (Ceylon) Weight: 0.48 carat Dimensions: 4.5 × 3.3 × 2.7 mm Dominant color: Bright lemon yellow Hues: Light yellow, solar yellow, occasionally slightly yellow-green depending on lighting Transparency: Transparent to translucent depending on area Luster: Vitreous, brilliant Shape: Natural rough crystal Cut: Unfaceted Appearance: Very luminous with visible natural structures and inclusions Quality: Gem quality Type: Natural gemstone / collection specimen Ceylon: a historic origin for corundums Sri Lanka, historically known as Ceylon, ranks among the world’s most famous gem-producing regions. The island is particularly renowned for its sapphires and for the extraordinary chromatic diversity of its corundums. Alongside the famous blue sapphires, yellow, pink, orange, violet stones or those displaying various intermediate colors can also occur. Sri Lankan yellow sapphires are thus a particularly interesting category for building a collection representing the natural diversity of corundum. A singular collector’s piece This specimen gathers several sought-after features: Sri Lankan origin, fine gem quality, very bright yellow color, strong light transmission, and retention in rough form. It constitutes a particularly interesting piece for a collection dedicated to colored sapphires, natural corundums, rough gemstones, Sri Lankan gems, or small high-quality gemstone specimens. Macro photography allows observation of details invisible to the naked eye, but the stone is especially worth examining from different angles: each rotation changes the light path and reveals new reliefs, flashes, and color variations. A superb 0.48 carat natural Ceylon sapphire, remarkable for its bright lemon-yellow color, transparency, and the richness of its natural crystal architecture.
