All auctions / Ethnographical / Exotic scaly giant clam (Tridacna squamosa) – 70 mm...

Scientific name: Tridacna squamosa (known as the Scaly Giant Clam or Murder Clam). Color: Exclusive orange (While the base shell is usually calcite white to yellowish, a solid, vibrant orange coloration throughout is among the rarest and most sought-after color variants of this species). Feature: Complete shell (consisting of both interlocking, matching valves/halves in a so-called "Matched Pair"). Quality level: GEM (Absolute top condition. The extremely fragile, leaf-like mantle flutes ["Flutes"] typical for this species are fully intact and undamaged on both shell halves). Size: 70 mm / 7.0 cm (A beautiful cabinet-size specimen where the scale texture is fully developed and extremely aesthetically structured). Origin: Indo-Pacific (Classic locales are the clean reef areas around the Philippines, Indonesia or the Solomon Islands). Habitat: Tropical coral reefs (The mollusks live in shallow, well-lit water of lagoons or on outer reef slopes, where they anchor themselves to coral rock or in the sand using byssal threads).
