When you think of Art Deco jewellery, cool, elegant designs in platinum and white gold, gleaming white with a rich diamond setting, may be the first thing that springs to mind. Fine designs in geometric shapes, structured by the finest saw work and delicately and elegantly designed: This is the style of the late 1920s, which actually corresponds to early Art Déco. Over the course of the 1930s, however, the Parisian jewelry houses in particular continued to develop this design language and by the end of the decade, the turnaround had arrived: instead of white gold and platinum, yellow and red gold were now the metals of choice again, and the shapes became more sculptural, voluminous and expansive, although still designed from a powerful geometry. This change in style can be explained not exclusively, but also by the technical and economic changes of the time. Platinum, for example, was de facto no longer available to goldsmiths from the beginning of the war at the latest, which is why the switch to yellow gold was not only voluntary. The trade routes to precious gemstones had also been interrupted in many cases, so that many pieces from this period only set smaller gemstones, used them for secondary purposes or even managed without any gemstones at all. This bracelet comes from this period and wonderfully demonstrates all these stylistic features that were widespread throughout Europe. The bracelet, made of warmly glowing yellow gold and rose gold, is formed from voluminous, interlocking links that look like tied ropes, creating a rich impression full of light effects without the aid of precious gemstones. According to its hallmarks, the bracelet was made in Italy. We were able to purchase it here in Berlin.
