Exquisite Madonna of Trapani in Sicilian Alabaster, 16th - 17th century

Descriptio This alabaster replica of the Madonna di Trapani captures the delicacy and devotion of the famous Sicilian Marian sculpture. Prized for its softness and translucency, the alabaster has been meticulously carved to depict the Virgin Mary with the Child Jesus, both crowned with silver details, following the medieval iconography of the Madonna and Child. In a late Gothic style with Renaissance influences, the 30 x 10 x 5 cm piece stands out for its realism and detailed execution. This sculpture is both a symbol of profound faith and a work of great artistic and historical value, linked to the Marian devotion that flourished in Europe between the 16th and 17th centuries. Authenticity and state of conservation are key factors in determining its value in the religious art market. Due to its age and history of use, this lot may show signs of wear and previous interventions. Unless explicitly stated otherwise, no specialized technical testing has been performed. The absence of any mention of restorations does not guarantee that none exist. You may request additional information before placing a bid. This does not affect the buyer’s statutory rights.
