Exquisite Vintage White Gold Ring with Emerald & Diamonds, Vienna, c. 1970

But in the case of an emerald, this effect goes even further, as the ancient author Pliny the Elder already knew: “When the eyes are weakened, they are restored by gazing upon the emerald. The stone’s gentle green dispels weariness.” Can emeralds truly preserve youth and beauty? We can say with certainty that the emerald in this ring is a delight to the eye! The oval emerald cabochon boasts a deep, warm green and is flanked by sixteen delicate brilliant-cut diamonds, which together weigh approximately one carat. The ring is crafted from white gold, whose bright luster not only complements the light of the diamonds but also intensifies the green of the emerald. The gemstone, cut into a high cabochon, features natural inclusions that are also known as jardin, or “garden.” The ring is a beautiful example of the art of jewelry design from the second half of the 20th century. The colours and shapes are minimalist and designed to showcase the precious gemstones. According to the hallmark, the piece of jewellery was crafted in Vienna, from where it eventually found its way to us.
