Extremely rare black

From our selection of collectible minerals we present a rare group of Hematite crystals from the Vulcanic Complex of Etna, in Sicily. Moreover, it is characterized by a dense druse of black lamellar crystals with intense metallic luster, perfectly developed on a compact dark matrix of volcanic origin, with a provenance particularly rare for the species, which increases its aesthetic value and mineralogical importance. The specimen stands out for the quality of crystallization and for the overall aesthetic balance, with features that highlight its natural structure and visual impact. Hematite (Fe2O3) owes its name to the Greek term 'haima' (blood), due to the reddish coloration it takes in powder, even when the massive crystals appear black and shiny as in this specimen. On Etna this mineral forms by fumarolic sublimation: hot gases rich in iron emitted by the volcano oxidize on contact with the atmosphere, depositing well-formed crystals on the volcanic rocks. This is a rather unusual genetic occurrence compared to the more common sedimentary or hydrothermal hematite deposits, which makes samples from this active volcanic locality rare. This is an ideal specimen for mineral collections, display, and for those who appreciate the natural beauty of minerals, also in the context of crystal therapy and lithotherapy, according to the properties traditionally associated with the mineral species. All minerals are 100% natural and untreated, with very rare exceptions always indicated in the description. The photographs are taken with professional lighting to best enhance colors and details; however, slight variations in shade may occur depending on the device or ambient light.
