All auctions / Ethnographical / fabric - Thailand - Late 20th century
Pair of Thai textile art works, latter half of the 20th century, depicting figures drawn from the traditional iconography of Thailand. The figures are represented in postures characteristic of Thai classical dance and theater, with tall headdresses, ceremonial costumes richly ornamented and with numerous decorative details. The work is distinguished by the use of vivid tones and gold highlights that stand out strongly against the dark background. This decorative technique, typical of many Thai works intended for framing in the mid-20th century, particularly highlights the jewelry, the headdresses, and the geometric motifs of the clothing. Works executed on a fine textile. The exact nature of the textile has not been analyzed; many comparable pieces are described as made on silk, sometimes with gold highlights or gold leaf. Origin: Thailand Estimated period: 1960s-1970s Style: traditional Thai art / Asian art Support: fine textile Subject: figures of Thai traditional dance and theater Presentation: framed pair Dimensions of each frame: 48.5 cm height × 44.5 cm width Beautiful old decorative ensemble, particularly interesting presented as a pair. The photographs allow appreciating the details of the workmanship, the colors and the condition.
