Ferdinand Barbedienne Fondeur - Sculpture, Lorenzo de' Medici - 47 cm - Bronze

A beautiful 19th-century bronze sculpture depicting Lorenzo de' Medici, Duke of Urbino, after the original by Michelangelo Buonarroti (1475–1564). The sculpture was made in France during the second half of the 19th century by the renowned Fonderie Ferdinand Barbedienne. It is based on Michelangelo's famous marble sculpture, created between 1520 and 1534 for the Medici Chapel in Florence, where it forms part of the tomb of Lorenzo de' Medici (1492–1519). Lorenzo is portrayed seated in classical armour, resting his chin on his hand in a contemplative pose. The sculpture is finely executed, with particular attention to the detailed armour, facial features and drapery. It is cast in high-quality bronze and is finished with a beautiful patina. Dimensions: 47 x 19 x 22 cm. Weight: 14.3 kg. Signature: F. Barbedienne Fondeur. Condition: very good with minor wear to age (see images). An exceptional antique bronze sculpture.
