FERNAND LEGER (FRENCH, 1881-1955) AND ROLAND BRICE (FRENCH, 1911-1989) A VASE, CIRCA 1950 Ceramic, glazed in black, red, white, the geometric pattern in intaglio Signed R. BRICE/BIOT-AM 23.5cm high Provenance: Christies's New York, 'Important 20th Century Decorative Art & Design', 9 December 2009, lot 228 Private collection, Ascot Fernand Léger worked with ceramics between 1951 and 1955 at Biot together with Roland Brice, one of his students before the war. Brice had started to work with ceramics already in 1949. Léger would create the designs, paintings, colours and forms and they were then executed by Brice and his son. Condition Report: Presents well overall. There are a few pin point glaze losses to the black glaze, which are minor; and a few tiny scratches/imperfections. There is a one shallow chip at the neck rim (approx 0.4 x 0.4mm).
