Figural mantel clock - Spelter - 1850-1900

Extraordinarily impressive antique French mantel clock in the opulent Louis XV / Rococo style, dating from the second half of the 19th century (circa 1855–1880). Atop the clock sits a dynamic sculpture of a medieval warrior/knight on horseback, triumphantly piercing a flying dragon with his lance. This is a classic allegorical depiction, most likely the iconic story of Saint George and the Dragon. Movement factory stamp: JAPY FRERES & CIE — GDE MED. D'HONNEUR. The clock looks neat, perhaps having been restored at some point in the past. Pendulum and key included.
