Figure carving

Figure carving

The wood carving depicts the offering of bread and wine by Melchizedek to Abraham. This work has been evaluated by experts at an art market, where there was an opportunity to have art assessed for originality. This expert suggests that the work may be by a Brabantian woodcarving artist. There were several talented woodcarvers and sculptors active in both Belgian and Dutch Brabant and in Limburg during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, who often worked for churches in the surrounding regions. These artists specialized in Neo-Gothic and Neo-Renaissance styles, which were very popular for church interiors at that time. Dimensions: width x height x depth is 51 x 57 x 6 cm, weight 6 kg.
