Figurine - Fraaie verzameling vintage Ainu 'Nipopo'...

Beautiful and very varied collection of 10 hand-carved wooden Nipopo dolls (ニポポ). These are traditional folk art objects from the indigenous Ainu people of Hokkaido, the northern island of Japan. Originally they were made by shamans as protective spirits and bringers of luck. This carefully assembled collection features a variety of sizes and unique renditions, recognizable by their characteristic angular facet carving and the gorgeous geometric patterns. The largest doll in this collection stands at no less than 36 cm tall (an unusually large and imposing size for this type of folk art). The centerpiece comes with the rare, original cardboard box with traditional Japanese print/stamps. This is a major plus for collectors. • Condition: The dolls are in beautiful, authentic vintage condition with a lovely patina that suits their age (see photos for an accurate impression). A stunning and unique lot for lovers of Asian art, ethnography, and Japanese folklore! For shipments within the European Union, there are no import duties provided. The item will be carefully packed and shipped. Please note that the packaging was done by a private individual and not by a professional service, so perfect packaging quality cannot be guaranteed. Thank you for your understanding.
