FIO Wines is a boundary-pushing Mosel estate, a joint venture between the Kettern family, who have grown wine at Piesport for centuries, and the celebrated Portuguese Niepoort family; its name means 'thread' in Portuguese, for the link it draws between tradition and modernity. This dry Riesling comes from the slate slopes of the Piesporter Falkenberg, spontaneously fermented and aged on its lees in old Mosel fuder. 2016 was a fine, classic Mosel vintage of ripe fruit and bright acidity. Michael Schmidt gave it 17 out of 20, and David Schildknecht from Vinous gave it a rating of 92.
