Miss Read's Country Cooking, or To Cut a Cabbage Leaf. Miss Read. London: Michael Joseph, 1969. First edition. Printed in Great Britain by Billing & Sons Limited, Guildford and London. Has original price sticker on the jacket! Miss Read was the pen name of Dora Jessie Saint, 1913 to 2012, an English author best known for her warmly observed books about English village life. Bright orange hardcover with a very good original orange dust jacket. Attractive and bright overall presentation. 215 pages plus 8 pages of index. Very good plus condition. One slight stain to pages 84 and 85, another slight stain affecting pages 120 through 126, and slight staining to the front endpaper. Otherwise clean and well preserved. A charming first edition combining Miss Read's affection for English country life with traditional cooking. An appealing copy for collectors of Miss Read, English cookery, British country life, and vintage British books.
