1929. First edition. xiii, [i], 300pp., a frontispiece and 11 other black and white illustrations. The Great Pearl Robbery of 1913 involved the theft of a necklace known as the "Mona Lisa of Pearls," which contained 61 flawless pearls and was valued at more than the Hope Diamond. The robbery took place in Hatton Garden, London, and led to a significant investigation by Scotland Yard and the arrest several gang members involved in the theft, but the recovery of the pearls was a complex process. This book is an account of the robbery, subsequent investigations and the arrest and trial of the robbers. The book is bound in the original red cloth covered boards with gold titling on the spine and front board. The case of the book is in very good condition with shelf wear and some light soiling to the boards. The spine is slightly faded and the spine ends are bumped. The contents are tight and clean with some foxing to the free endpapers and the first and last few pages, including light marks on the title-page. There is no inscription.
