[First Edition] The Search For Good Sense

The first edition of a biography on four quintessential figures of the eighteenth century, in a blue crushed morocco signed binding. The first edition of The Search For Good Sense, Four Eighteenth Century Characters: Johnson, Chesterfield, Boswell, Goldsmith, written by British intellectual Frank Laurence Lucas. In a crushed blue morocco signed bidning by C.R.C, in a contemporary cloth slipcase with a marble interior. Contains a photographic frontispiece of King's Chapel, Cambridge. While Lucas admits that there have many biographies on all four of these prolific figures, none of these biographies have grouped these four characters together as being typical eighteenth century minds. A classical scholar, a literary critic, and novelist, Lucas was a prominent intellectual of the period who also assisted at Beltchley Park during the Second World War. In a crushed blue morocco signed bidning by C.R.C, in a contemporary cloth slipcase. Externally, smart with minimal marks. Slight fading to the spine with a couple of small rubbing marks. Binder's embellished signature to bottom extremity of front board. Slight browning to slipcase extremities, and slight edgewear. Slipcase interior clean. Decorative end papers in beautiful condition. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Very Good
