[First Edition] The works of Robert Burns : with an account of his life

Four volumes, complete. First English edition. 8vos. Frontispiece engraved portrait of Burns with caption. xxvi, 276 pp.; xxvi, 476 pp.; xiv, 384 pp. + 55 pp. Appendix and Glossary; xxiii, 415 pp. Original tree calf with modern rebacking, decorated gilt-stamped spinal brown leather with contrasting label. Important for the significant amount of previously unpublished letters and poems. The rebacking has been done beautifully and the set presents itself very well. Internally there is a contemporary previous owner's name top of title page. The text is quite bright with minimal foxing. There are a few very small stains. Very good plus. Scarce.
