[First Edition] Wallace K

First edition of Victoria Newhouse's groundbreaking study of prolific modernist architect Wallace K. Harrison, known for his work on Rockefeller Center, the Metropolitan Opera House, the United Nations complex, and the 1939 and 1964 World's Fairs in Flushing Meadows. Published in 1989 by Rizzoli International Publications. 4to (8.5" x 11.5"), hardcover with pictorial dust jacket, 332 pages, illustrated throughout in b/w. Presentation copy from the library of architectural historian Carol Herselle Krinsky, with Newhouse's printed calling card mounted to the front free endpaper above Krinsky's personal Ex Libris bookplate. An important association copy documenting Carol Herselle Krinsky's behind-the-scenes contribution to one of the standard modern studies of Wallace Harrison. In the acknowledgments, Newhouse credits Krinsky twice: first among the scholars who provided comments on the manuscript, and again—together with Gregory Gilmartin—for "their invaluable help in providing a number of illustrations." Krinsky's assistance thus extended beyond editorial advice into the visual documentation that helped shape the finished volume. The book itself remains the foundational biography of Harrison. A compelling document of scholarly collaboration, preserving evidence of Krinsky's role as a trusted advisor and resource for major architectural historians. Light bumping to front board. Foxing to top edge of textblock. Light bumping and rubbing to dust jacket.
