Flavia Delgado - AMERICAN SPIRIT XL

AMERICAN SPIRIT is a 70 x 100 cm painting by Flavia Delgado inspired by American iconography, the imagery of the contemporary western, and the graphic aesthetics of old illustrated posters from the mid-20th century. The work portrays a profile portrait of a young Indigenous woman with braids and feathers, transformed into a symbolic image of strength, identity, and connection with nature. The frontal composition and the use of intense colors render the figure into a visually iconic presence. Flavia Delgado blends influences from pop art, classic comic art, and vintage editorial illustration, evoking old illustrated covers and graphic advertisements from the fifties and sixties. The bold black outlines and formal simplification recall the visual language of retro posters and traditional printed illustrations. The combination of deep blues, bright reds, and sandy tones creates a warm, nostalgic atmosphere, while the serene profile of the character provides balance and elegance to the composition. The piece engages with the imagery of travel, freedom, and the spirit of the American landscape, reinterpreting historical symbols from a contemporary and graphic perspective. AMERICAN SPIRIT combines graphic design, vintage visual culture, and pop sensibility in a work designed to impart character, personality, and decorative strength to a space.
