All auctions / Lighting / Floor lamp (2) - Aluminium

Wonderful and extremely rare Coppi composed of three legs and dating to the 1950s/1960s/1970s respectively. The spotlight belongs to Castiglione delle Stiviere (Mantua), Coemar founded in 1933, which for decades was one of Italy’s world-leading companies in the design and production of professional lighting systems for entertainment, today transformed into a lamp formerly used for theater and television studios. The Solar / Compact series was born between the late 1970s and the 1980s. At that time, the market demanded lighting bodies that were more compact, lighter, and tougher than the old heavy pressed sheet-metal projectors. Coemar responded by introducing finned extruded aluminum housings. This innovation redefined robustness and thermal management standards of the era, making these fixtures extremely popular in theaters and rental services across Europe.Description of the Device The Coemar Solar 650/1000 Compact is a professional projector designed for heavy-duty use. Body and Thermal Management: The outer shell is entirely made of black finned aluminum. The fins are not a stylistic choice, but act as a massive passive heat sink, essential for dissipating the very high temperatures generated by 1000W halogen lamps without the use of noisy fans, prohibited in theater settings. It features a functional close‑in and close‑out control system for the lamp through the glass of the spotlight to adjust intensity and throw, i.e., the luminous output. A sturdy, thermally insulated side handle allows you to orient the spotlight even when it is hot. At the center there is a black knob with a chrome flange to securely lock the projector’s tilt on its mounting yoke (often called the “hook” or “cradle”). Safety: At the bottom is visible a knurled screw plug with a red lightning bolt and the inscription “Supply disconnect before opening.” This system prevents accidental opening of the lamp compartment when the fixture is energized. Main Technical Features Multi‑voltage Power Supply: Operates in a range from 120V to 240V (50/60 Hz), making it suitable for both European and American standards. Light Source: Used tungsten halogen lamps with GX 9.5 socket (a two-pin quick‑insert base typical of stage lighting). Maximum Power: Supports lamps up to 1000 Watts (variants of 650W or 500W could also be mounted depending on light needs). Today it uses very low‑energy LED lighting. Paired with it is a rare original Theis Wolzhausen topographic tripod (produced by the historic German company Theis Feinwerktechnik GmbH, based in Breidenbach‑Wolzhausen). This historic brand, active since the last century in the production of high‑precision instruments such as the theodolites and optical levels, made these sturdy ash wood tripods to ensure maximum stability and to absorb micro‑vibrations from the ground.Details of the Brand and the Structure The Junction Plate: The bluish metal block visible on the top of the wood bears the famous inscription “Made in Germany” engraved near the manufacturer’s logo. The Lower Brackets: The distinctive dark metal tips, provided with horizontal finned brackets, were used by the surveying engineer to press with the foot and firmly drive the tripod into the ground or mud during field surveys.Today, collectors and lovers of industrial design actively seek Theis tripods on vintage platforms precisely to pair them with old stage spotlights and turn them into lamps of character. If you’d like to delve into the history of your tripod, let me know: If you want to determine the exact production period (e.g., 1950s or 1960s). All in excellent condition with very minor modifications as described and shown in the photos.
