Follower of Daniel Mytens Portrait of King Charles I, head and shoulders

oil on panel, 31 x 26cm, framed 37 x 31cm, A label verso states that the painting belonged to Miss Auchinleck (d.1812). Condition Report, Condition Report, Possibly 17th century. Craquelure and light surface dirt. The panel has some curvature with a horizontal split through the lower centre which has been retouched and fluoresces strongly under UV light. There are fine horizontal cracks present across the surface in areas, in line with the grain of the panel. There is a scratch beneath the sitter's left eye which has been retouched. There is an area of crude restoration to the background and crown in the upper left quarter. Examined under UV light some further small scratches to the face fluoresce strongly with futher patches of restoration visible to the lower centre and the collar. Much of the background is obscured by a thick layer of uneven varnish which may mask earlier campaigns of restoration. Please see additional condition images.
