Following the models of Diego Velázquez (1599-1660) - Jester with

Descriptio Dimensions: 120 × 96 cm. Oil on canvas. The figure of the jester, with a serene but thoughtful expression, holds an open book, surrounded by objects typical of a scholar. The work imitates the style of Velázquez, particularly his psychological treatment of portraits of jesters and marginal figures. The dark palette and directed light create a dramatic contrast that highlights the melancholic nature of the subject. The 19th century, with its admiration for the great masters of Spain’s Golden Age, produced numerous reinterpretations of Velázquez figures, and this work exemplifies that trend, capturing the dignified and reflective atmosphere of the Sevillian master’s originals. Due to its age and history of use, this lot may show signs of wear and previous interventions. Unless explicitly stated otherwise, no specialized technical testing has been performed. The absence of any mention of restorations does not guarantee that none exist. You may request additional information before placing a bid. This does not affect the buyer’s statutory rights.
