Forney, Texas. $20 1882 Date Back. Fr. 555. City NB. Charter #6078. PCGS Banknote Choice Fine 15. Located at the fringe of what is now the DFW Metroplex, Forney was once a railroad town whose fortunes were once tied to the railroad but have mirrored that of nearby Dallas in recent decades amidst a period of significant population growth. Yet Forney's former prominence along the Texas and Pacific Railway no doubt played a part in the fact that three different note-issuing National Banks chartered here between 1889 and 1909. This particular lot was issued by the City National Bank (Charter# 6078) which organized in 1902 and records just 15 non-institutional notes in the National Bank Note Census where this exact note is one of just two surviving examples for this short-lived type spawned under the Aldrich-Vreeland legislation of 1908. PCGS Banknote comments "Rust, Partially Removed Stains." Estimate: $1,750 - $2,250. Provenance: From the Jack Copeland Currency Collection, Part IV.
