Fossil Echinoid on Original Matrix - Pseudocidaris...

The fossil of Pseudocidaris Mammosa is one of the ancestors of today’s sea urchins. The oldest fossil of the Echinoidea class to reach us dates back to the Jurassic, 200-150 Ma. It is a collectible fossil particularly beautiful to behold, especially when there is such a complete specimen, with an intact central shell and so many spines still around it. The shell has a diameter of about 17.5 mm, while the whole specimen, including the spines, reaches a maximum length of 82 mm. Matrix: Rock | Matrix with Pseudocidaris Mammosa Origin: Spain Period: Jurassic (180 million years)
