In this lot a fossil fish of good size is put up for auction on a lithographic limestone plate of the species Diplomystus Dentatus. The plate measures 8 cm high and 12.9 cm wide, the body of the fish measures 11 cm long. Perfect preservation, natural and complete specimen, "it's an exquisite piece" Comes from Wyoming, from the famous deposits of the Green River Formation of the United States. Diplomystus was a freshwater fish of medium to large size, capable of reaching 70 cm in length, being a generalist predator with a high mouth that inhabited near the surface to catch its prey; other fish such as Knightia, aquatic insects, crustaceans and any other prey smaller in size. The Green River Formation, which stretches across the states of Wyoming, Utah and Colorado, is the result of the sedimentation of a vast region of lakes that, due to different geological events, produced very fine clay and silt low in oxygen and contributing to an exquisite fossilization including the soft parts of a large multitude of animal and plant species as well as insects. Iconic site in paleontology in terms of the quantity and quality of its fossils. "This specimen is accompanied by an L-shaped acrylic stand for display as a gift"
