Four-armed Hindu goddess in the Prabhamandala – brass –...

Four-armed Hindu goddess in the Prabhamandala – brass –...

For sale is this elaborately crafted Indian brass figure of a four-armed Hindu goddess, from an inherited collection of Asian art and decorative objects. The deity is depicted in an elegant seated posture on a raised lotus-like pedestal. She has four arms and holds various ritual or symbolic attributes. In one of the rear hands, a conch shell (Shankha) is clearly visible. The other hands show additional attributes and gestures. The figure wears a tall, richly ornamented headdress as well as elaborate jewelry and a finely structured garment. The face, hands, clothing, and jewelry elements are detail-modelled and engraved. Especially striking is the large, almost circular Prabha/mandala temple arch that fully frames the deity. It is decorated with pierced floral and foliate ornaments and forms, together with the rectangular, also decorated pedestal, an impressive overall composition. Important note on assembly: The large arch appears, due to its attachment to the pedestal, at first glance as a separate or detachable element. It cannot be removed. Perhaps the construction was originally movable or pluggable and has become fixed over time. There was no attempt to force the arch off. Dimensions & weight: Height about 25 cm, Width about 20 cm, Depth about 9 cm, Weight about 1.914 kg / 1.914 kg. Material: Brass. Representation: four-armed Hindu goddess with various attributes. Origin/Style: India / Hindu iconography. The brass has a warm gold-colored surface with distinctly pronounced dark patina in recessed and ornamented areas. This makes the numerous engravings and relief details particularly stand out. The figure is in used condition with age- and wear-related traces. Patina, oxidation and discoloration traces, abrasion, scratches, as well as minor casting and surface irregularities are visible. There are also signs of wear on the arch and its attachments. The underside is open and shows the dark untreated interior of the metal casting. No exact dating has been made. Therefore, the figure is not offered as antique. The photos are part of the condition description.
