Fr. 1199. 1913 $50 Gold Certificate. PMG Choice Very Fine 35. An often overlooked series date for this appealing $50 Gold Certificate type and considerably more challenging than the later Series of 1922. The stern central portrait of President Ulysses S. Grant at center represents Grant's debut appearance on the $50 denominations and comes accompanied by a terrific yellow-gold "50" overprinted counter seen at left along opposite the Treasury seal at right. To that end, bidders may behold a strong orange color on the back completing the intricate design that often faded with a prolonged stint in commercial channels. Indeed many surviving examples are encountered in the Fine and lower-end Very Fine grade range often in the company of noted impairments while those that approach the Extremely Fine grade or better represent price spikes that progressively become far more pronounced. Estimate: $2,500 - $3,500. Click here for certification details from PMG.
