Fr. 268. 1896 $5 Silver Certificate. PMG About Uncirculated 50.

A Veritable Cornucopia of Color and Detail Nice Almost Uncirculated 1896 $5 Fr. 268. 1896 $5 Silver Certificate. PMG About Uncirculated 50. Comparable to the 1909-S VDB Lincoln Cent or 1916-D Mercury Dime when it comes to the iconic nature of this design from the twilight of the Nineteenth Century during the 1890s. Uncommon demand often follows examples of this design regardless of condition with circulated and original examples like this one offered with a degree of infrequency at auction. Even though this specimen has experienced circulation, one would be remiss not to mistake this piece for an example that graded much higher upon an initial observation. Details demonstrated by the full-length vignette Electricity Presenting Light to the World are as bold as one would expect of a higher grade while exceptional detail can be found throughout thanks to the constituent elements of the design. From small details such as the folds of the gown worn by Electricity to the details of the celestial horses that carry Jupiter's chariot astride the stormy skies, bidders are met here with a truly fine example that makes the grade assigned seem conservative when held against visual traits. Estimate: $7,000 - $10,000. Click here for certification details from PMG.
